AGAPE was established in 2004 as a ministry of Camden Uniting Church. Some years before that, Heather Bieman had a dream of offering not only piano tuition, but also tuition in other musical instruments, especially to young people in the Camden area. At the time she was teaching piano in her home. Whilst serving as Music Director at Camden Uniting Church, Heather shared the idea of a music school with Rev Colin Seymour (senior pastor at Camden Uniting Church at that time), and with his support and encouragement, and the approval of Church Council, the dream became a reality.
Piano and guitar were the only two instruments taught to begin with, gradually broadening the base to include tuition on other instruments. Tutors were chosen wisely to reflect the values of AGAPE – to serve the community by offering quality music tuition in a safe, caring Christian environment. The title AGAPE is a Greek word meaning “unconditional love”. The music school established at Camden Uniting Church is based on Christian principles, and welcomes people of all races, creeds and cultures. The title AGAPE is an acrostic for “Amazing Grace Academy of Performing Excellence”.
