What is a good age to begin guitar lessons?
Unless the student is unusually self-motivated or mature for
their age, formal lessons on a full-size instrument need not
begin until age 9 or 10. Commitment to regular practice is the
most important element in determining progress.
Is it ever too late to learn the guitar?
Absolutely not! Many
people are not interested in learning until they are in their
mid to late teens. Some people reach adulthood or may even be
retired from full-time work before they have the chance to
learn. That may well be the time to fulfill a life-time desire
to play the guitar.

What type of guitar do I need?
An acoustic (nylon or metal string) or an electric guitar is
required. It simply needs to be “tune-able”. You can probably
borrow one until you know you are ready to purchase your own
instrument. Tutors can help by giving valuable advice before you
make a purchase.
What type or style of playing will I learn?
All students start off covering rudimentary concepts and
techniques using a book to supplement the teaching of their
tutor. After mastering the basics, students are able to focus on
the style of their choice. The objective is for students to be
able to perform in their preferred style in a solo, ensemble or
band context.
Why the Guitar?
It’s the instrument of the times! Much of the music we hear
every day was composed on the guitar. It’s portable and
relatively inexpensive. You can swap tunes and ideas with
thousands of other players. You can start a band or just
entertain round the campfire!
