PIANO & THEORY

Why do I teach at AGAPE?

I have been teaching piano for many years and it encourages me to see children develop a love of music through learning the piano. I love getting to know the students and their families.

Other instruments I can play
:

Pipe organ reasonably well, and a few notes on the violin and cello (not well!)  I once gained an honors pass in Grade 6 AMEB Singing.

Formal music training/qualifications:

 Bachelor of Music (Honors) from Auckland University, Dip Ed, A.T.C.L (Trinity College
)

Performing experience

I enjoy teaching now more than performing solos ! I performed at many eisteddfods, concerts, and recitals as a child and as a senior piano student, and won several scholarships. In more recent times I have performed solos at church and community events. I have accompanied many singers and instrumentalists in eisteddfods, concerts and examinations. I train the Amazing Grace Singers, a vocal ensemble of 12 singers, and I also  love conducting children's’ choirs.

Music styles, bands, performers preferred:

I have two main interest areas – Classical music, and Christian/Gospel music of many different kinds. I enjoy listening to Mozart, Chopin, Brahms and Bach to name just a few. I love contemporary worship songs and old hymns.

One AGAPE music story:

I have many stories! One girl struggled as a young child to grasp music reading skills, and wanted to give up piano. She stayed with it and now plays competently at an advanced level. Her playing is a joy to listen to because she plays so expressively.
